Doyle (“Owen”) Bond is a popular humorist whose slight build and dour looks win him chuckles even before he speaks. His wife Ellen is an unhappy Mormon housewife. Little do they know, trudging through the snow one evening, that fate—and instinct—are about to take them on a long flight south.

Through the eyes of these and other Utah and Arizona characters, Lewis Horne delicately probes the byways of the human heart, exploring small-town roots and urban dreams. In nostalgic self-revelation, Horne bares his, and his readers’, own souls in the process.

“Satisfying … rich in family history and family incident, moving, gentle, wise meditations on time and change.” —Guy Vanderhaeghe, author, Things as They Are
